Preparation work

February 28, 2006

I have finally started to work on my blog, using iBlog. I have tested several products such as MacJournal among others, but it is quite difficult to find one that works well when you have your own site. Most seem to assume that you want to publish your content to some of the popular blogging sites…

Now comes the hard work, I will have to customize the look and feel of my blog so that it matches the rest of my site. It is not a lot of fun, but at least it is something that only needs to be done once.

I am looking for a tool that will allow me to do the same for the rest of my site. I do not mind working with raw HTML, but it is something that should only be done once, to create the different page templates used in a site. I am very hopeful that I will be able to use Sandvox from Karelia Software once it is finally released for that purpose. I have tested the beta and it looks promising. Rapidweaver from RealMac Software is a nice nice product too, but I feel that it is less customizable and therefore more oriented to people who do not want to create their own templates. However, version 3.5 will be released soon and I will wait for it before I take a final decision on which one to use.

For now, both products are much better than iWeb, because they are customizable and therefore allow everyone to create their own themes. However, do not discount iWeb yet. I think that it is a very well engineered product that probably will evolve into a category killer in the future as Apple releases new versions.
